Welcome To Nowabenki Gonomukhi Foundation (NGF)

 

Nowabenki Gonomukhi Foundation (NGF) has competed its twenty-four years of development journey to empower the poor, marginal and unprivileged people especially in the southwest region of Bangladesh.

NGF was formed in 1987. At that time, the name of this organization was Nowabenki Gonomukhi Shamobay Samity (NGSS) which was formed by a group of small rice traders consists of 69 members. In fact, during the initial stage of NGSS, the objectives were a positive change in the socio-economic condition of the neglected populace of the society by giving special priority to the poor members of the Samity. Gradually the NGSS registered by the Cooperative Department of the Government of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh in 1988 and next it was registered by the Department of Social Welfare in 2002. Considering expansion, sustainability along with its long-term mission and vision to serve the marginalized and underprivileged people through developing innovative, context oriented developmental interventions this organization was renamed by “Nowabenki Gonomukhi foundation (NGF) and received registration from the Joint Stock company in 2004. Then the organization received registration from the Micro Credit Regulatory Authority in 2008 and NGO Affairs Bureau in 2009 which enable NGF to act on foreign aid.

NGF is an organization who beliefs developmental trajectory though participatory community self-help and self-resilience based initiatives started by means of economic and financial empowerment of the targeted populace and used microfinance as an important tool for sustainable development. It has been developed facing enormous challenges due to its prioritization of most vulnerable socio-geographical targeting and few individual supporters. NGF’s beliefs, vision, mission and long term strategic embedded innovations and implementation helped NGF facilitating empowerment process of the poor and disadvantaged people in the extreme southwest region of Bangladesh. South-west Bangladesh is the most vulnerable, challenged and underprivileged areas having risks and vulnerabilities due to impacts of climate change, coastal characteristics, ecological degradation and underprivileged socio-geo distinctiveness. Now NGF has become one of the largest non-governmental organizations in the south west of Bangladesh.
